As a global hub for computational organismal biology, NSCORE brings together experts and students in interdisciplinary teams to solve the most challenging and pressing questions in organismal biology. Nucleated at Columbia University, NSCORE partners with academic and research institutions across the greater New York City area, North America, Europe, and Asia to build a new community of computational organismal biologists dedicated to understanding and predicting organismal resilience.
New York City has one of the highest concentrations of academic research institutions in the country. Alongside Columbia University, NSCORE's founding partners include New York University, City College and Queens College (both part of the City University of New York - CUNY), the CUNY Advanced Science Research Center, the American Museum of Natural History, and the New York Botanical Garden. Two international partners extend NSCORE's reach: the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior (Konstanz, Germany) and Academia Sinica's Biodiversity Research Center (Taipei, Taiwan). Each contributes distinct expertise, data, and audiences—museum and herbarium collections, deep expertise in both organismal biology and computer science, and global campus networks—allowing NSCORE to draw on the concentrated resources of New York City while engaging nationally and internationally.
