Crisis Planning for Immigrant Families (CPIF) is a Morningside Heights Legal Services (Columbia law clinics) pro bono project supporting immigrant families who may face sudden disruption to their lives due to detention or deportation. We help families and individuals plan for unexpected detention or deportation by completing legal documents governing financial matters, healthcare decisions, and childcare arrangements.
We are seeking undergraduate and graduate student volunteers who are comfortable speaking in a language used by NYC's immigrant communities, such as Spanish. No prior translation experience is required. Student volunteers will work with law students to provide help completing documents.
A specific time commitment is not required; students will sign up for workshops that may take place on weekdays, evenings, and possibly weekends as available. Students will be required to participate in trainings offered in September and October in order to work directly with clients.
Information sessions will be held on Sept. 17 at 9am in Jerome Greene Hall room 102A and on Sept. 18 at noon on Zoom. In order to access the law school or the Zoom, please RSVP via this form: https://forms.gle/fJGkHsBSXShZ15KQ8
