Do you want your students to learn deeply in your classroom? Incorporating active learning strategies can help! While having students do things in class may look like active learning, active learning also requires that students are “thinking about what they are doing” (Bonwell and Eison, 1991). Providing students the time and opportunity to develop metacognitive skills, such as reflecting on the learning process, helps them internalize the course content and skills and make their learning meaningful to themselves. In this workshop, participants will learn about activities that promote the development of their students’ metacognitive skills and consider how the learning activities and experiences in their courses can be enhanced with simple reflective strategies.
